West Palm Beach native Lauren Carey obtained her undergraduate degree from the Juilliard School and completed studies with The Alexander Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts, The Academy of Ballet Florida, Miami City Ballet, The School of American Ballet, and the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Carey earned a Master of Arts degree from New York University in "Teaching Dance in the Professions", with a concetration in American Ballet Theatre Ballet Pedagogy. She is a certified teacher by the American Ballet Theater's national training curriculum in all levels. Currently the full-time artistic director for Ballet Florida, Carey is also on faculty at The Harid Conservatory, Boca Raton, and is an Artist in Residence at The Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts.
