Florida is… is an evolving
body of two-dimensional works that depicts the natural beauty of Florida. With a
focus on community engagement, artist Xavier Cortada asks Floridians to define
their state by its unique flora and fauna, rather than the things we build to
displace it. Through delicate drawings, vibrant monoprints and colorful
larger-than-life projections, this exhibition educates viewers of all ages on
the importance of Florida’s wildlife ecosystems and encourages environmental
stewardship. Dynamic renderings of a new framework for sustainable urban
design and architecture in South Florida are presented by the ADaPT Team,
comprised of partners from Florida Atlantic University, Brooks + Scarpa,
University of Southern California, and University of Kansas.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, March 29th, from 6pm-9pm. The opening reception will feature a special, Florida-inspired performance by Bethune Elementary School of the Arts' student dance troupe, Dance Express.
